The opening of the stadium was delayed for almost two years, and finally, it was completed in the year 2007.

On 19th May 2007, Wembley Stadium was officially opened for sports and entertainment, with the first FA Cup Final between Chelsea and Manchester United (1-0). Previously, several official football matches had been played, out of which the English and the Italian U21 sides were the first.

The construction of the Wembley Stadium was made by the architectural firms, named Populous and Foster and Partners, which cost an aggregate of GBP 757 million. The most exemplary feature of the stadium is the longest single-span roof structure in the world which is around 133 meters tall and spreads for 315 meters.

Wembley Stadium also has a sliding roof that stands about 52 meters over the pitch. Although the pitch does not close completely, it spans over every seat, making it the largest fully covered stadium in the world.
